South West Surrey Concert Band was set up by Mike Fielder almost 25 years ago under the auspices of Surrey County Council as part of their music provision for youth. It began as a band for a select few brass, woodwind, and percussion players of school age but the band's reputation swiftly grew and it developed towards a wide membership of talented musicians. That success brought pressure from parents for more opportunities for junior players to become involved and about 20 years ago the junior band was established with Lin Bedworth-Ray as its conductor, and more recently Helen Smith.

Currently the bands have a total membership of about 100 players who meet to rehearse throughout school term time and are tutored by a talented team. The SWSCB tradition is strong and has developed the whole team that embraces tutors, musicians, parents, families and friends into one family; younger or less experienced players are always welcomed and nurtured by those more experienced who guide and encourage them towards eventual progression to the senior band.

Biannual tours to several European countries and the USA are a regular and fun feature of band activities together with very successful charity concerts to raise much needed funds for local charities whilst also giving valuable sense and purpose to playing. Together with other fundraising events the quality of provision and outcome for all members is, we believe, second to none. "Nulli Secundus" is the 4th recording of the band under the direction of Ken Blair and recognises and illustrates the superb talent of both senior and junior players. Without a doubt under the inspired and inspiring musical direction of Mike Fielder, SWSCB has come a long way in 25 years..
