Christmas Concert
December 2006

Everyone who supported their children at the Christmas concert remembers what a truly wonderful event it was. The bands were "electric"! Their playing was magnificent with a very full programme of Christmas favorites and pieces new to the band repertoire including Troika, The Great Escape, Orpheus Overture, The little Drummer Boy many others. The capacity audience was great too, adding to the festive atmosphere that engulfed the hall.

Eastbourne
July 2006

The senior band was off to Eastbourne Bandstand, a very special and much sought after venue where it is quite a task to secure a booking. However, all efforts are very worthwhile especially when the weather is on your side too! The bandstand has recently been refurbished and, apart from promenaders now being rather excluded by screening at the higher level, a wonderful arena is provided. The audience was very appreciative, enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the sun listening to top quality music, tapping their feet (even the pensioners!) and cheering at the end of a very varied programme. Travelling to Eastbourne together by coach, funded by the band's Friends Association, this wonderful trip was also a great warm up for the tour that began the following week

Junior Band Concert
July 2006

The concert for the junior band at the end of July was the climax of a fun day for those members who stayed after rehearsal for rounders and barbecue. After lunch the band reassembled and played to an appreciative audience. For some members it was their first concert but no one would have noticed as they joined their team and played a very varied programme including Sousa Confuser, Puttin' on the Ritz, The Blues Brothers, Bandology Concert March, Caribbean Rondo, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. As is customary each concert included a very successful raffle; the generosity of our supporters continues to be most encouraging.

Leaver's Concert
24th June 2006

At the end of June and the dreaded exam season, the Leavers Concert included pieces particularly close to the hearts of senior members including Tall Ships, Pirates of the Caribbean, Duel for Drummers, Pop and Rock Legends: Stevie Wonder and Hootenanny - a piece that Mike Fielder cannot abide but has to include!! The standard of playing was very high as usual and included opportunities for some solo performances. This concert is always a bitter sweet occasion, one that celebrates the wonderful band and when we thank our marvellous tutors for their hard work and expertise that they so readily share but also when we bid farewell to many long serving and loyal members who have given so much to the band over the years. We thank them for all their dedication and wish them well for the future.
